Move hosting with a clear plan for the live business

I plan and deliver hosting migrations around the transactions, staff and connected systems your business relies on. Preparation, testing and the final switch are treated as one coordinated project.

Establish what the move needs to achieve

You may be moving because costs have risen, performance is inconsistent or the current arrangement no longer suits the application. We establish what a better destination should provide and compare the full running and management costs.

The investigation maps the current website and its dependencies: databases, media, scheduled work, search services, payment callbacks, email and business integrations. I identify the access and people needed to move them safely.

Prepare an environment that can prove it works

I set up the destination around the application’s requirements and the host’s facilities. A test copy allows us to check the software, configuration, certificates and connected services before directing customers to it.

The test plan follows representative journeys. That includes customer accounts, products, basket and checkout, payment confirmation, order release, stock handling and the agreed operational integrations. Warehouse staff may need to verify that new orders reach the tools they actually use.

  • Check application versions, configuration and custom functionality.
  • Test payments, callbacks, notifications and scheduled work.
  • Verify the flow of orders and stock into connected systems.
  • Confirm DNS, email and other services affected by the change.

Keep changing data consistent at the switch

Orders and stock continue changing while a migration is prepared. The final transfer needs an agreed sequence so new transactions, customer records and files reach the right destination.

I set out the cutover timing, any maintenance window, team communications and acceptance checks. Changes are scheduled around trading and operational needs. Staff know which environment is live and what to do if an exception appears.

Know how to handle a failed cutover

Fallback planning considers the data created after the switch. Once the destination has accepted orders, reverting to an older database can lose or confuse transactions. We agree the decision point and how new data would be reconciled.

After the move, I check the live customer journey, operational connections, logs and email. Temporary settings are removed and the old environment is retired when the agreed verification and retention conditions are satisfied.

Experience and a useful handover

My previous work includes moving a live ecommerce operation from Webscale to Cloudways and aligning capacity with trading demand. The wider hosting programme reduced external hosting costs by 63%. That experience keeps the business case and live operation central to the migration.

Your project includes an agreed dependency record, test and cutover plan, implementation and post-move checks. The handover explains the new environment, access, responsibilities and remaining work.

Start with the move you are considering

You can commission a migration directly. The £1,500 Ecommerce & Operations Audit is useful where hosting is one part of a wider set of trading and operational problems; it diagnoses and recommends rather than carrying out the move.

I am based in Bournemouth, with on-site visits across Dorset and through to Southampton, and remote delivery further afield. A free discovery meeting normally takes 30–45 minutes. Consultancy is £80 per hour, with fixed project quotes available and supplier costs identified separately.

Migration questions

How much downtime will there be?

That depends on how the application stores and synchronises changing data. We agree a cutover process and any maintenance window after investigating the environment.

Can our domain and email remain with their providers?

Often, yes. I review DNS and dependencies before the move, then verify the affected services after the switch.

Can you coordinate with our developer?

Yes. I can lead preparation and cutover, deliver technical work and agree test responsibilities with your developer and operational team.

Let’s give your hosting move a workable plan.

Tell me why you are moving and what the website supports. We’ll discuss preparation, testing and the right way to make the switch.
