Growth should improve your business, not bury your team in more work.

I’m Tom Turner. I help established retailers, wholesalers and growing businesses increase profitable online sales, remove repetitive work and get their people, processes and technology working together.

Based in Bournemouth. On site across Dorset and through to Southampton. Remote support further afield.

Experience across the whole operation

Read the results and context

Historical results from my previous in-house role. £10.9m is transaction value across four online stores, not a claimed sales increase. Hosting savings are annualised. Automated work released capacity equivalent to three full-time roles; staff were redeployed.

Is the business growing, or just getting harder to run?

More sales should leave you with a stronger business. I find the causes of wasted effort, missed revenue and rising costs, then help you change how things work.

More orders mean more staff and admin

Payment checks, paper picking lists, copied information and manual labels make growth expensive. I follow the work to find what can be simplified, connected or automated.

Improve the operation

The website should be selling more

Weak product journeys, problems on particular devices, missed upsells and incomplete recovery can hold back profitable orders. I investigate the customer journey and the evidence behind it.

Improve sales and order value

Costs keep eating into your margin

Hosting, integrations, repeated handling and avoidable support consume money and time. I look at the business case for changing them, including the work and dependencies involved.

Find avoidable expenditure

The systems don’t join up

Stock, orders, accounts, couriers and support tell different stories. I find where information stops flowing and build reliable connections that your team can actually use.

Connect the business

I come in, listen and see how the work really gets done.

I look at your online presence before visiting. On site, I talk to owners and department leads, then spend time with the people picking, dispatching, handling queries and keeping the operation moving.

These are informal conversations while people work. Combined with sales, analytics and cost information, they reveal where delays begin, why work gets repeated and what changes could make the biggest difference.

The reasoning, the priorities and the route to improvement

The report shows how the operation fits together, where the problems begin and which changes are worth making. Recommendations explain the proposed approach and practical next steps, with evidence and assumptions made clear.

01An owner’s view of the priorities
An executive summary, current-state assessment and process maps showing the most significant issues and opportunities.
02Evidence behind the findings
Observations, records and data explaining what happens, how often and what it means for customers, workload or costs.
03A considered business case
Estimated benefits, effort and cost ranges where supportable, with dependencies and areas needing further investigation.
04An actionable roadmap
Recommended approaches, implementation steps, priorities and measures to establish whether the work delivers the intended improvement.

The report is usually ready within a few days of your visit. One findings walkthrough is included to explain the recommendations and discuss the next steps.

Give each team a reliable order to work from.

The finding
In this example, finance confirms payments manually, the warehouse prints orders before all changes have arrived, and packers enter shipment details again. Teams work from different versions of the same order.
The business impact
Orders wait for checks, pickers handle stale instructions, packers correct mistakes and support staff chase updates. A dispatch problem creates work across the business.
The recommendation
Define a single order-release process with payment, stock and exception rules. Give picking and packing the current order, verify items before dispatch and return shipment status to the website and support team.

A practical implementation brief

  1. Map the current handovers and time a representative mix of ordinary and exception orders.
  2. Agree release rules, stock allocation and ownership of payment, address or order-change exceptions.
  3. Pilot the connected workflow with one team, including order amendments, partial orders and failed updates.
  4. Verify items before labels print, return tracking and status, and train staff before expanding the process.
Evidence, dependencies and measures

Evidence to collect: payment and order timestamps, observed handovers, re-entry time, amended orders, mis-picks and support contacts linked to delays.

Dependencies: reliable order and product data, agreed release rules, system access, integration capability and an exception process the team can operate.

Measure order-to-release time, hands-on minutes per order, dispatch performance, fulfilment errors and related support contacts.

What success would look likeLess repeated handling, clearer ownership and fewer avoidable corrections. Establish the baseline before estimating staff capacity or cash savings.

A few things you might be wondering

Is my business a good fit?

I work with established businesses selling online, or with a foundation to grow online. You may be a retailer, wholesaler or another business whose systems and workflows are holding it back. You need the capacity to invest in improvements. My work is about improving the business and its technology; standalone website design is not my core service.

What will I get from the free discovery meeting?

Usually 30–45 minutes with me, ideally at your premises or online. We’ll discuss how the business works, where it gets difficult and what you want to achieve. I’ll share relevant experience, discuss any clear early opportunities and explain what implementing improvements could involve. It is a useful first conversation; a detailed investigation belongs in paid work.

Does the £1,500 audit include fixing the problems?

It includes investigation, a written report with priorities and practical recommendations, and a follow-up to explain the findings. Implementation, additional deep dives and later progress reviews are paid separately. You can act on the report internally, use an agency or ask me to deliver the changes.

Can I come to you with a specific problem instead?

Yes. If you already know what needs doing, we can agree a focused project without an audit. I can investigate, build and deliver improvements directly, or work alongside your team and existing suppliers.

Can you work with our developer, agency or IT team?

Absolutely. I can provide the operational picture, technical investigation, priorities or extra delivery capacity. Where specialist input is needed, I can help organise it and keep the work connected to the business outcome.

Where do you work, and what does it cost?

I’m based in Bournemouth and visit businesses across Dorset and through to Southampton. Remote work is available further afield. Discovery is free, the Ecommerce & Operations Audit is £1,500 total, and implementation is £80 per hour or an agreed project quote. No VAT is currently added. See pricing and process.
