Experienced technology leadership on terms that fit your business
Get a senior view of your systems, costs and projects, with someone who can take responsibility for moving agreed work forward. I help owners and teams turn competing demands into clear priorities and delivered improvements.
You may have capable staff and several suppliers, yet still be the person deciding which problem comes first. Each team sees its own part of the operation. Budgets grow, deadlines move and nobody can give you a clear picture of the whole programme.
A fractional IT director role gives the business experienced leadership for an agreed amount of time. I can help establish direction, challenge spending, support technical staff and coordinate delivery. The remit and decision-making authority are defined around what you need.
Build a roadmap around how the business works
I start by understanding the commercial objectives, the operation and the people delivering it. That makes it possible to identify improvements that release capacity, remove bottlenecks and support growth, alongside essential technical work.
The roadmap explains the order of work and the reasons behind it. Dependencies, budgets, responsible people and measures of success are visible, so you can make decisions without having to reconstruct the detail yourself.
Prioritise systems and automation around business impact.
Assess investment proposals and recurring technology expenditure.
Clarify responsibilities across internal teams and external suppliers.
Plan delivery stages, approval points, testing and handover.
Keep progress, decisions and unresolved issues visible to the owner.
Support the people who have to make it happen
A useful plan accounts for the team’s actual capacity. I work with managers, developers and operational staff to understand what is achievable, where they need help and which assumptions need checking.
That can include mentoring an IT manager, giving a developer a clearer brief or making sure a supplier’s work fits the warehouse process it is meant to improve. I can implement agreed changes myself and bring in specialist help where the project requires it.
Leadership grounded in hands-on experience
In my previous senior role, I reported directly to a business owner and led technology across four online stores and two warehouses. My responsibilities included internal staff, external development, budgets and connected operational systems.
That experience connects strategic choices with the practical work underneath them. An integration needs an exception process. A hosting change needs a tested order journey. An automation project needs staff who understand the new workflow.
We define the responsibilities, time, working pattern, reporting and budget together. This may combine visits, remote delivery and regular reviews. Ongoing arrangements are individually scoped; there is no prescribed monthly allocation to choose from.
I am based in Bournemouth and work on site across Dorset and through to Southampton. Start with a free 30–45-minute discovery meeting, preferably at your premises, to discuss the decisions and projects that need attention.
Consultancy is £80 per hour, with project quotes available for defined work. For ecommerce businesses, the £1,500 Ecommerce & Operations Audit can provide an initial roadmap. A specific leadership brief can also be agreed directly.
Technology leadership questions
Will you replace our existing IT manager?
The role can support the people you already have. We agree responsibilities and reporting so the team receives clear direction and useful additional expertise.
How much time do we need?
That depends on the responsibility, delivery workload and decisions involved. We agree a realistic arrangement after understanding the business.
Can you deliver technical work as well as advise?
Yes. I can combine leadership with hands-on implementation, or coordinate delivery by your team and specialist suppliers.
