AWS decisions guided by the way your business trades
I help you understand what your AWS environment needs to deliver, what it costs and how it should be operated. Advice can lead through to implementation, migration and ongoing oversight of the agreed environment.
An ecommerce application has customers, orders and operational dependencies behind its infrastructure. The architecture needs to support those requirements within a budget the business can sustain.
I assess the workload, availability requirements, current setup and team’s capacity to operate it. That helps decide whether AWS is suitable and which level of complexity is justified. A managed hosting arrangement is also considered where it fits the requirement.
Find the constraints before choosing more capacity
A busy product launch might strain the database, application workers or a background job. The visible symptom may be slow pages, payment delays or orders taking too long to appear. I follow those dependencies to establish where performance is being lost.
Architecture and capacity work consider the application’s state, traffic pattern, storage, database and integrations together. We identify what can scale, what requires application work and how to check the result.
Map application, data and third-party dependencies.
Assess ordinary demand, launches and other peak workloads.
Review performance evidence and the cost of proposed capacity.
Plan deployment, configuration and operating responsibilities.
Define useful monitoring and business-relevant checks.
Understand the bill and ongoing workload
I review expenditure alongside the resources and services in use. The business needs to understand which costs follow demand, which remain fixed and what operational work sits behind the architecture.
The comparison includes implementation, monitoring, maintenance and specialist support where required. Your business retains appropriate ownership of accounts and billing, and the handover identifies who is responsible for each part of the setup.
Scope recovery and security explicitly
Detailed access, security, backup and recovery work is agreed as part of the infrastructure project. Requirements include who can restore the environment, which data must be recovered and how the result is verified.
These investigations sit outside the standard £1,500 Ecommerce & Operations Audit. That audit can review relevant hosting costs and performance within the trading operation, then identify where a deeper infrastructure project is worthwhile.
Turn the recommendation into a working environment
I can assess an existing proposal, investigate the current environment, plan a migration or deliver agreed changes. The project establishes dependencies, budget, test criteria and a release process. Where another specialist is involved, I can define and coordinate their work.
My wider hosting experience includes moving a live ecommerce operation to Cloudways and introducing scheduled scaling within a programme that reduced external hosting costs by 63%. That is a result from the previous environment, and demonstrates the importance of matching expenditure to demand.
I am based in Bournemouth and meet businesses across Dorset and through to Southampton, with remote infrastructure work available further afield. Free discovery normally lasts 30–45 minutes and helps clarify your objective and useful initial directions.
Consultancy is £80 per hour. Fixed project quotes and ongoing work are agreed around the environment, with infrastructure and supplier charges shown separately. You can bring a specific AWS brief directly; an ecommerce audit is optional.
AWS questions
Can you review a proposal from another supplier?
Yes. I can examine requirements, dependencies, costs and responsibilities, and identify questions to resolve before commissioning it.
Will AWS automatically reduce our hosting costs?
The answer depends on your application, workload and operating arrangements. I assess the full cost and practical suitability before recommending a change.
Can you help deliver the recommendation?
Yes. I can carry out agreed technical work and coordinate specialists where needed, with testing and handover included in the project scope.
More ways I can help
A closer look at related services and the experience behind them.
Your hosting should support customers, orders and growth without swallowing more budget than it needs. I investigate performance and expenditure together, then deliver improvements around the way your business trades.
I investigate recurring technology expenditure and the work involved in every order. Then I help remove wasted spending, repeated administration and inefficient processes, with the full cost of change considered.
I plan and deliver hosting migrations around the transactions, staff and connected systems your business relies on. Preparation, testing and the final switch are treated as one coordinated project.
