Practical security and recovery for the systems you rely on
I help established businesses understand and improve website security, access and recovery arrangements. The work follows the actual environment and the consequences for customers, staff and trading.
An old admin account, unsupported extension or uncertain backup can leave a business exposed. Often the difficulty is unclear responsibility: one provider hosts the website, another maintains it, and nobody owns the complete process.
I establish the systems involved, who controls them and the specific questions we need to answer. A scoped review produces prioritised findings and a plan for improvement. I can implement agreed changes and coordinate with the people responsible for the environment.
Review who can access important systems
Access accumulates as staff and suppliers change. I examine administrative permissions, shared accounts, supplier access and the process for removing access when a relationship ends.
Changes may include clearer account ownership, multi-factor authentication where supported, restricted management interfaces and improved handling of integration credentials. They are planned around the platform and host so staff can still perform their work.
Establish ownership of hosting, applications and admin accounts.
Review unnecessary access and supplier permissions.
Check the handling of credentials and application configuration.
Document agreed responsibilities and routine access changes.
Check maintenance and recovery as working processes
An update process needs compatibility checks and someone accountable for release decisions. Recovery needs usable data, accessible credentials and a procedure the business can actually follow.
I can review backups and restoration, clarify maintenance responsibilities and test agreed recovery scenarios. The scope follows the systems, business requirements and information available.
My career includes platform and PHP upgrades, access management, local and remote backups, incident response and website recovery. I also hold the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity qualification, gained in 2026.
Respond to an incident with the trading operation in view
If a website is compromised or fails, I help establish the affected services, contain the issue and coordinate restoration. The checks follow the customer and operational journeys, including orders and connected systems.
Once the immediate service is under control, further investigation can identify changes to access, maintenance, monitoring or recovery. Where the situation requires specialist assistance, I help get that expertise involved.
For an urgent incident, call 07356 243199 so I can confirm availability. Out-of-hours work is £150 per hour when accepted. Planned consultancy is £80 per hour, with scope and budget agreed first.
Separate this work from the ecommerce audit
The £1,500 Ecommerce & Operations Audit investigates sales, workflows, connected systems and relevant costs. A detailed security, backup or recovery assessment is separately commissioned work.
You can request a security project directly. Based in Bournemouth, I visit businesses across Dorset and through to Southampton, and work remotely further afield. For planned work, a free 30–45-minute discovery meeting helps establish concerns, priorities and possible next steps.
Security and recovery questions
What is included in a security review?
We agree the systems and concerns first. The scope can cover administrative access, configuration, maintenance, integrations, backups and recovery, with prioritised recommendations.
Can you work with our developer and host?
Yes. I coordinate with the people responsible for each service, clarify the work and test agreed changes.
How should we request urgent help?
Call 07356 243199. I will confirm whether I can take the work and discuss the immediate situation and next steps.
